What are the materials of plastic mold cavity?

The plastic mold cavity material refers to the material used to manufacture the cavity part of the plastic mold. Different plastic molds use different cavity materials to meet different requirements and needs.

The following are 5 common plastic mold cavity materials:

(1) Tool steel material: Tool steel is one of the commonly used plastic mold cavity materials. It has good hardness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance, and can withstand injection molding processes under high temperature and high pressure conditions. Common tool steels include P20 (known as 3Cr2Mo in China), 718 (known as 3Cr2NiMo in China) and so on.

(2) Stainless steel material: Stainless steel is another commonly used plastic mold cavity material. Stainless steel has high corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance, which is suitable for the treatment of plastic materials containing acidic or alkaline ingredients. Common stainless steel materials are SUS420, SUS304 and so on.

(3) Aluminum alloy material: Aluminum alloy is a lightweight and good thermal conductivity material, suitable for manufacturing large molds or molds with low weight requirements. Aluminum alloys have high thermal conductivity, which helps to speed up the cooling of plastics. Common aluminum alloy materials are ADC12, 6061 and so on.

(4) Copper alloy material: Copper alloy has good thermal conductivity and wear resistance, suitable for manufacturing mold under high temperature and high pressure conditions. Copper alloys can provide better heat dissipation and help control the cooling rate of plastics. Common copper alloy materials are H13, CuBe2 and so on.

(5) Polymer materials: In addition to metal materials, there are some polymer materials can also be used to manufacture the cavity part of the plastic mold. For example, polyimide (PI), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and other have excellent high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance, suitable for the treatment of high temperature plastics or special plastic materials.
